We are living at a time when working practices have become ever more flexible. Many of my clients work from home at least one day a week and find it is an effective way to get their head down and get things done.Equal numbers are emailing up until midnight and start again from 6.30 am onwards.

With the defined lines between home and work life beginning to blur I am wondering how far this meshing of two worlds will go.

I am often guilty of being at home physically but at work in my head and I am sure this can happen the other way around as well. The new emphasis and growing interest in mindfulness may help us all with being present and focussed in whatever role we are in, however I wonder if employers are prepared to allow a fuller balance between home and work life. It seems less than fair that people can be in the office until 8 or 9 pm on a regular basis but still be expected to take a set number of days holiday and to stick to regulated hours in the office.

Is it too much of a one way street?
